Awa Ndiaye, a Senegal native, is a global citizen and leader committed to crafting a sustainable future. In 2016, as part of a final project for an Honors course, she had the privilege of hosting a Global Leadership Camp in her home city, Dakar, Senegal to empower local youth. She is committed to advocating for, and empowering others in an attempt to spread the conviction that we—as global citizens—each have something valuable to contribute to the global conversation aimed at tackling global issues, and creating a better world. Currently completing her Bachelor in Civil Engineering, she has a particular interest in sustainability—and regeneration—in the built environment. Awa wanted to become an engineer because engineers solve problems. During her journey, it became obvious that addressing the world’s most urgent challenges begins with engaging others in conversation. That’s why she recently fell in love with spoken word poetry as a call to action, an invitation to build a more just, more sustainable, more beautiful world. A better world. Awa recently won the Honors Got Talent competition for her poem.

Additionally, Awa has been accepted to the MSc in Environmental Change and Managemnet program at Oxford. She has been selected to receive the Oxford-Allan and Nesta Ferguson African Graduate Scholarship, which will cover her tuition and provide a stipend for living expenses while at Oxford. There is only one of these scholarships available in the School of Geography and the Environment department at Oxford, and Awa received it!

In the future, she is hopeful that the degreee from Oxford will allow her to collaborate with organizations that hold sustainability and regeneration as core values. Ultimately, she wants her voice to resonate in unison with the choir that is screaming to shift the status quo.
