“Build forward fairer” – UN report calls for region to adopt a new social contract which puts inclusive recovery at its heart

Amid continuing uncertainty over the trajectory of the COVID-19 pandemic and increased global risks, the region’s economic recovery and progress must be anchored in “a new social contract” of inclusiveness to protect the vulnerable from future shocks, according to the Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific for 2022, released today by UN-ESCAP.

Zero Draft of HLPF Outcome Outlines Recovery Actions

The agreed outcome of the 2022 HLPF is under discussion among UN Member States in “zero draft” form. The initial draft also includes sections on: the impact of COVID-19 on the 2030 Agenda, and actions to recover while accelerating SDG progress; the status of each SDG under in-depth review at the 2022 HPLF, and the VNRs; and a roadmap for the way forward.
