The Summit has a very strong line-up of speakers from both sides of the Atlantic, and have deliberately sought speakers from across the political spectrum. Whatever differences we may have, we all share the love of the democratic process that enables us to debate and discuss these viewpoints without fear and in the open.

The Summit will feature a long range of interesting topics to be discussed, including:

  • Building an Alliance of Democracies
  • Technology and democracy
  • Fake news and free speech
  • Cyber security and democracy
  • The future of global trade
  • Nurturing democracy through economic development

Building an Alliance of Democracies

The first panel discussion at the Copenhagen Democracy Summit will be hosted by Peter Robinson of the Hoover Institution and feature prominent politicians from some of the world’s leading democracies, who will discuss how we can build friendships that realize our ambition of bringing together an international alliance of democracies:

  • José María Aznar, former Prime Minister of Spain
  • Felipe Calderón, former President of Mexico
  • Nick Clegg, former Deputy Prime Minister of the UK
  • Stephen Harper, former Prime Minister of Canada
  • Toomas Hendrik Ilves, former President of Estonia

The panel discussion is part of a special production of “Uncommon Knowledge,” a series hosted by Hoover fellow Peter Robinson as an outlet for political leaders, scholars, journalists, and today’s big thinkers to share their views with the world.
