Mentoring is a proven tool, not only in tackling youth unemployment, early school leaving and the low level of interest in vocational education, but also for contributing to academic and entrepreneurial excellence. The number of mentoring programmes is therefore rising fast, not only in the Netherlands, but also in the rest of Europe.

Mentoring – a powerful tool

On 17 and 18 March mentoring professionals and practitioners, researchers, business partners and government representatives will come together to exchange ideas, inspire one another and, above all, learn from one another. The three main themes are: mentoring in a vital economic region, developing lines of research for evidence-based mentoring, and best practices of mentoring as a powerful 21st-century tool. The summit gives mentoring professionals and practitioners in Europe an opportunity to meet and establish closer ties.

Launching the European Centre for Evidence-Based Mentoring

The summit will mark the official launch of the European Centre for Evidence-Based Mentoring. The Centre will conduct research, generate knowledge and share applied research methodology. In September 2015 Frisian secondary and higher vocational education institutions signed a declaration of intent with Professor Jean Rhodes, director of the MENTOR/UMB Center for Evidence-Based Mentoring, and Mr W. Kooyker, chairman of MENTOR’s board. The declaration sets out the cooperation arrangements between the European and US centres.
