 Progress on advancing literacy in the 30 GAL member countries, with a particular emphasis on those operating in crisis-affected regions, will be on the agenda. The goal is to encourage dialogue and collaboration among GAL members, recognizing the vital role that literacy plays in promoting peace and stability, social and economic reconstruction, and development. Additionally, a special session will be held to give young people a chance to share their perspectives on literacy development in areas impacted by conflict and crisis.
The meeting is by invitation only.

Background
Since its launch in 2016, the Global Alliance for Literacy within the Framework of Lifelong Learning has driven international discourse and guided the agenda for literacy provision globally for those who need it most. The Alliance includes 30 countries committed to improving youth and adult literacy. It serves as a platform for its members to collectively discuss progress and challenges, and exchange knowledge and good practices.

Today, GAL is made up of 30 countries strongly committed to improving youth and adult literacy. GAL's objectives:

  • Improve GAL stakeholders’ (intersectoral) collaboration for literacy and numeracy development at international, regional, national and local levels;
  • Increase resources for the implementation of literacy efforts of the 30 GAL countries by strengthening political will, commitments and public awareness;
