The Global Democracy Coalition is a multi-stakeholder alliance of over 150 democracy organizations worldwide, working together to advance and protect democracy globally. The coalition was originally convened by International IDEA in 2021, to foster collaboration among democracy organizations and strengthen global collective action for democracy. The partnership comprises organizations working to advance democracy globally, regionally, nationally or locally, comprising organizations from more than 51 countries, with programming in over 110 countries.

Since its inception, the GDC has evolved into a dynamic platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, learning and advocacy, addressing pressing global democracy challenges. The Coalition works strategically on key issues, convening diverse stakeholders to drive action, influence policies, and amplify the voices of those dedicated to democratic resilience.

Its annual Global Democracy Coalition Forum, brings together partner organizations and democracy stakeholders from around the world to collectively shape the global democracy agenda. Through its regional and global forums, the GDC fosters inclusive discussions on democracy’s most pressing challenges and opportunities across different regions of the world and globally, providing spaces for civil society, policymakers, and international organizations to collaborate, share insights, and drive action to strengthen democracy. In addition to the annual forum, the GDC and its partners organize events throughout the year, further strengthening democratic engagement, fostering cross-regional dialogue, and amplifying voices that advance democracy.

Beyond convening, the GDC leads impactful advocacy initiatives, including the #ThankYouDemocracy campaign which highlights democracy’s intrinsic value and elevates the voices of those working to defend it. This campaign fosters global awareness, mobilizes support for democratic institutions, and engages diverse actors in safeguarding democratic principles.

As democracy faces growing threats worldwide, the GDC remains committed to bring democracy organizations together around common goals, empowering democratic actors, fostering cross-regional collaboration and learning, and driving concrete actions to protect and strengthen democracy for the future.
