Good Governance for EU Regional Policy: Citizens’ participation in EU cohesion policy

On 10 March, 10:00-12:00 (CET), the European Commission’s Regional and Urban Policy DG (DG REGIO) will hold an online event on “Citizens’ participation in EU cohesion policy” during which the outcome of a pilot project on good practices in citizen engagement in the implementation of EU cohesion policy programmes will be presented. Moreover, a new joint initiative by the OECD and DG REGIO will be launched that involves programme authorities and beneficiaries of the European Regional Development Fund and civil society organisation
 
  • On 8-9 February Commissioner Elisa Ferreira will open the series with the first event ‘Building Transparency with Integrity Pacts in Europe’.
  • The ‘Forum for Managing Authorities: Building Administrative Capacity 2021-2027’ on 16 February is the second event.
  • On 1 March, a third event will present tools for administrative capacity building for authorities managing funds from the ERDF, the Cohesion Fund and the Just Transition fund.
  • On 10 March, the fourth and final event on strengthening citizen engagement in cohesion policy will close the series.

Description of the events:


1. Building Transparency with Integrity Pacts in Europe (8-9 February 2022, 15:00-17:30)

Join us to learn about lessons learned & the future of clean contracting and investment in Europe. We will show the results of the pilot project run with Transparency International and other civil society organisations in 11 Member States since 2016. The agenda includes a high level conference on 8/2, and on 9/2 a knowledge exchange hub for practitioners of Integrity Pact projects.

2. Forum for Managing Authorities: Building Administrative Capacity 2021-2027 (16 February 2022, all day event)

It will bring together Managing Authorities to gain insights from experts on administrative capacity building; explore new ideas with peers for building capacity to overcome administrative challenges that can limit effective management and use of EU funds under Cohesion Policy, including for developing Roadmaps for Administrative Capacity Building; and share outcomes and lessons-learned from the DG REGIO pilot project Frontloading Administrative Capacity Building for Post-2020 to scale up administrative capacity building efforts.





3. Tools for administrative capacity building (1 March 2022, 11:00 - 12:30)

Presentation of tools at disposal of authorities managing funds from the ERDF, the Cohesion Fund and the Just Transition fund


4. Citizens participation in cohesion policy (10 March 2022, 10:00 - 12:00)

Political debate with Commissioner Ferreira on citizens participation followed by presentation of the results of cooperation with OECD, ESIF authorities and Civil Society Organizations. Launch of a new initiative for ESIF authorities and CSOs by DG REGIO and OECD.
