Background Information

Among the questions that will be discussed by the speakers at the round table: Who is responsible for human rights violations committed in connection with a World Cup? Can the Olympic Games also contribute to the promotion of human rights? How can we avoid that human rights violations are committed in the context of sporting events ?

The speakers of the round table will be the following:

  • Véronique Haller, head of human rights policy, Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs
  • Federico Addiechi, head of sustainability, FIFA
  • Meghna Abraham, deputy director for global thematic issues, Amnesty International
  • Lucy Amis, research fellow mega sporting events, Institute for Human Rights and Business
  • Renata Neder, human rights advisor, Amnesty Brazil
  • Andrea Florence, strategic alliance officer, Terre des Hommes
