https://www.sei.org/events/abstracts-agu-2025/ The American Geophysical Union (AGU) conference is an annual event in the earth and space sciences. This year, SEI will convene two water-related sessions at the conference. This session focuses on the use of geospatial analysis in water resources modelling. Research that uses satellite observations, geospatial analysis, and predictive modelling to inform water management and planning are welcome to apply. We especially encourage studies that examine public health indicators in relation to land use, climate change, and human-water systems, and that prioritize equity, community engagement, and accessible communication of results. The session will be convened by SEI researchers Romina Díaz-Gómez and Marina Mautner, along with Antarpreet Singh Jutla of University of Florida. Confirmed speakers: Aquil Tariq, Mississippi State University, Mississippi Actionable Insights from Remote Sensing: Advancing the Integration of Spatial Analytics, AI, and Participatory Approaches with Water Management Planning This session aims to connect technical modelling innovations to actionable decision-making, especially in service of vulnerable communities and complex freshwater–coastal and island systems. Projects evaluating management alternatives – such as infrastructure operations, demand-side interventions, or nature-based solutions – are invited to apply. We particularly encourage the submission of studies that apply participatory and transdisciplinary approaches. Given the location of New Orleans, we especially invite research with a focus on watershed-to-coast systems. The session will be convened by SEI Researchers Marina Mautner and Romina Díaz-Gómez, along with Local2030 Islands Network affiliate Erin Derrington and Associate Professor Patrick Ray of University of Cincinnati. Confirmed speakers: Kate Brauman, Deputy Director, Global Water Security Center, University of Alabama Matteo Giuliani, Associate Professor, Environmental Intelligence for Global Change Lab, Politecnico di Milano Assessing Adaptation Strategies in Water Systems: Modeling Tools for Planning, Tradeoffs, and Implementation The conference will be hosted in New Orleans, LA, from 15–19 December. Interested researchers and practitioners should submit their work on or before July 30, 2025. The specific time and date of these sessions have yet to be scheduled. Convener SEI US Convener SEI US
